Dirt to Dine
Adventure Camp

FOR BUDDING YOUNG CHEFS
AND FAMILY FARMERS

Dirt-to-Dine is week-long summer camp bridging farming, gardening and cooking experiences in a dynamic, hands-on, youth-driven environment. The camp brings your young epicurean’s enthusiasm for all things cooking back to the source of the ingredient’s: land, soil, seeds, animals, plants and more. Dirt-to-Dine builds on all children’s natural attraction to and enjoyment of farms, farm animals, and nature, as well as their innate curiosity about how things grow and work. Dirt-to-Dine is held at the beautiful historic Connolly Ranch, Napa County’s only family farm dedicated to education.

This camp is for ages 5 (kindergarten ready) to 11, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. It is structured in two parts: In the mornings campers learn the sources of the healthy food we eat. In the afternoons they learn how to cook with these ingredients. Each of the five days will explore a different aspect of foods we eat (the farming, animal care, gardening or foraging), and will culminate in cooking with those foods. The camp is structured in the following five sections:

• Day 1: Dairy. Animal care, milking a goat, making and cooking with butter, cream, fresh ricotta cheese

• Day 2: Fruit, Seeds, Nuts & Honey. Bee observation, foraging & picking wild berries, cooking with fruit, nuts and honey

• Day 3: Chickens, Eggs & Broth. Chicken diet & care, harvesting fresh eggs, making & cooking with broth, eggs, & chicken - all from a whole chicken

• Day 4: Harvesting Summer Vegetables. Garden chores, composting, harvesting & cooking with tomatoes, squash, basil, beans

• Day 5: Grains, Flour & Adobe Oven Pizzas. Thrushing, grinding corn, oven-roasting ingredients for pizza, making dough, pesto, tomato sauce & creating pizzas with oven-roasted toppings.

• Celebration feast on Day 5, with parents invited to observe.
