Connolly Ranch is a working farm in Browns Valley. We offer engaging, hands-on educational programs designed to meet California state standards for each grade level. Watch as science, language arts, history, physical education and nutrition come to life while your students are having fun learning.
While many of our field trips teach the sources and benefits of healthy foods and an understanding of how nature works to nourish us, we are now more actively incorporating preparing and cooking these foods in our field trips. Be sure to ask about this for your field trip.

Choose from the following field trip themes
or contact us and we can build a theme.
FARM ANIMAL TOUR
Students will meet our sheep, goats, chickens and other farm animals up close. They will learn how to care for and respect living animals, about body structure, physical adaptations, life cycles and resource needs.
(K-2)
ENVIRONMENTAL HISTORY
We’ll lead a nature walk through the oak woodlands and examine artifacts to learn how local Native American tribes used and cared for their resources. (3-5)
EARLY PIONEER LIFE
Students will learn what it takes to spin wool, weave on a loom, sew, manage a flock of animals and grow their own food. (K-5)
DIRT TO DINE
Let’s explore how soil makes our lunch. Students will participate in activities around the farm and garden to discover the sources of our food. Then we’ll wash up, put on our aprons and prepare an easy, healthy, kid-friendly snack with some ingredients right from the farm. This is a great lesson on health and nutrition. (2-5)
GROWING IN THE GARDEN
Kids will explore and tend to the organic gardens to learn about plant parts, insects, composting soil and where food comes from. (K-5)
OAK WOODLAND ECOLOGY
This is where science is made fun. Students will learn about food webs, habitats, energy flow and adaptations; all taught through a nature walk and interactive games. Restoration activities are also available. (K-5)
