EARTHLINGS OUTDOOR PLAYSCHOOL (ages 3 - 5) Meeting the goals of early childhood development through a farm-based education model. Our Vision We believe children are innately curious and it is our job to learn and discover alongside them. Together we will learn how to connect with ourselves, nature and each other while also fostering creativity and social emotional development. What does it mean to be an Earthling? Our focus is to inspire children’s connection to nature, emphasizing the importance of stewardship and care for our families, our communities and our planet. Some concepts and activities include: Social and Emotional Development -Working together to feed, brush and care for our farm animals. -Designing a fort with peers -Creating a bridge across a puddle -Building a pond with creeks and dams in the sandbox -Observing and learning the life cycle of a chicken Physical Development; large and fine motor -Adventure hikes into Westwood Hills -Balancing on logs/climbing over rocks -Spinning wool for beaded bracelets -Gently harvesting veggies from the garden -Carefully holding a handful of worms -Painting with natural paintbrushes (sticks, kale, flowers) Farm - Based Curriculum Our weekly themes, projects and activities emerge directly from the children's interests. We, as educators, are discovering and learning along side the children. By listening to their questions and observing their curiosities we are able to create a curriculum that inspires each individual child as well as the class as a whole. A large part of our curriculum stems from the Farm Based Education Network. 2019 Fall Session September 9th thru December 20th *No class the week of Nov. 11th OR the week of November 25th. **Junior Farmers Camp will be held during these holidays.
